PEACE-SOLIDARITY-FRIENDSHIP
The 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council took place from November 21 to 26, 2022, in Hanoi and Quang Ninh. This is the first time Vietnam has hosted such a Congress, demonstrating the prestige and position of Vietnam in global arena.
This is also an opportunity for Vietnam to promote international solidarity and continue to contribute to the movement of peace-loving people in the world.
Founded in 1949-1950, the World Peace Council is the leading body of the global peace movement, bringing together representatives from 135 peacekeeping organizations affiliated with communist and left-wing political parties around the world. For more than 70 years of existence and development, the World Peace Council has made important contributions to the world people’s movement to protect and unite peoples of all nations fighting for peace, national independence, democracy, and progress.
The 22nd World Peace Council Congress is a huge success, with over 100 delegates from nearly 50 countries. The delegates represent progressive and peace-loving forces in the world, coming from organizations that have friendly relations and cooperation with the World Peace Council, such as the World Federation of Democratic Women, the World Federation of Democratic Youth, the World Federation of Trade Unions, the World Federation of Democratic Lawyers, etc.
The exchanges at the Congress were active. The delegates unanimously approved the "Political Declaration of the Congress," which "shows a very strong message about determination and efforts to strengthen solidarity and gather peace-loving and progressive forces in the world" to continue to fight for peace, justice, democracy, social equity, and sustainable development against war, oppression, exploitation, and injustice.
Within the framework of the Congress program, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with the delegates. The President highly appreciated the positive contributions of the World Peace Council and its member organizations in preventing war and building a world of peace and justice. The President said that preventing conflicts and wars, eliminating inequalities and injustices in international relations, and building a peaceful world with equitable and sustainable development have become urgent requirements and are the earnest aspirations of progressive mankind all over the world. At the meeting, leaders of the World Peace Council and the Peace Councils of other countries expressed their respect and affection for President Ho Chi Minh and admired the traditions and achievements of the heroic Vietnamese country and people—a symbol of world peace.
The President wished the World Peace Council, international democratic organizations, and forces for world peace and progress to continue accompanying, uniting, and supporting the Vietnamese people on their new path. Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to the Council's movements as well as to progressive people's movements around the world for peace, national independence, democracy, and social progress.
In harmony with the spirit of solidarity, friendship, striving for peace, cooperation, and development, and the joy of welcoming honored guests, on this occasion, the leaders of Hanoi hosted a meeting with international delegates. Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, Ha Minh Hai, emphasized the important contributions of the World Peace Council after more than 70 years of existence and development. The World Peace Council has always accompanied, united, and supported Vietnam in every historical period, from the struggle for peace, national independence, unity, and territorial integrity to today's national construction and defense. On behalf of the Hanoi government and people, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai sent international friends a message about the thousand-year-old capital of Hanoi, a city for peace, the elegant and talented people of Thang Long-Hanoi, and how a dynamic Hanoi is on the rise. Together with the country and people of Vietnam, Hanoians will always stand side by side and accompany the Council on the road to building lasting peace on earth and a solid foundation for sustainable development and prosperity.
The 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council already ended, but the feelings and impressions about a friendly, hospitable, and peace-loving Vietnam and the achievements after 36 renovations in Vietnam still remain. According to Mr. Ganim Gazawi, member of the Executive Board of the Israel Peace and Solidarity Committee, Vietnam, a peaceful country, is a place he has been looking forward to for a long time. He expressed that the heroic country of Vietnam, in both the past and present, is blooming more and more radiantly, becoming a profound lesson for the peace movement in the world.

Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to the Council's movements as well as to progressive people's movements around the world for peace and national independence. The success of the Congress is a message expressing the world's strong support for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland of the Vietnamese people, the Communist Party of Vietnam's path in national construction and development.
