VIETNAMESE OVERSEAS
Various activities have been held over the past few days to celebrate the 131st birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - 2021).
Ceremonies and meaningful activities took place to mark the 131st birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, reported VNA.
In Hong Kong ( China ), the Party cells of the Consulate General and other representative agencies of Vietnam on May 18 visited the Tai Kwun relic site, which included Victoria Prison where Ho Chi Minh was detained from June 1931 to January 1933, during the time of his revolutionary activities in the special administrative region of China.
The activity aimed to help participants learn more about the leader’s life and career while staying in Hong Kong, where the Communist Party of Vietnam was established in 1930, to conduct revolutionary activities.
Elsewhere, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique , representatives of the Movitel telecoms company and other Vietnamese businesses, along with many Vietnamese working in Maputo city attended a ceremony in commemoration of the late leader at the embassy’s headquarters on May 18.
Vietnamese Ambassador Le Huy Hoang highlighted the key milestones in President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary career as well as his enormous dedications to the country and the liberation movements in Africa and around the world.
The diplomat called on the Vietnamese community to make unceasing efforts to study and follow the President’s moral example and contribute to the Vietnam - Mozambique relations.
Given complex Covid-19 developments in Mozambique, Hoang appealed to the community to adopt the disease prevention and control measures regulated by local authorities while staying united to weather difficulties.
A flower-laying ceremony was also held on Ho Chi Minh Avenue to pay tribute to the leader.
In 1977, Samora Machel, the first president of the People’s Republic of Mozambique, now the Republic of Mozambique, named an over-1km-long road in Maputo capital Ho Chi Minh to express the Mozambican people’s respect and admiration for the Vietnamese leader.
Discussing key points in Ho Chi Minh’s ideology in the modern age as his 131st birthday on May 19 approaches, Professor Vladimir Kolotov, head of the Ho Chi Minh Institute at St. Petersburg University in Russia, quoted President Ho's remark that "the Hung Kings founded the nation, we must protect it", saying that it is a guiding point of view that carries both the ideology of communism and the concept of protecting the interests of the Vietnamese people.
Reviewing the revolutionary career of the late president since 1923, when he first set foot in the Soviet Union, Kolotov said that Ho Chi Minh had been able to catch the most important parts of the ideological systems in the East and the West.
The Russian professor emphasised that Ho Chi Minh’s thought has been realised through the formation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - a free, developed, and civilised country.
Vietnam can creatively promote this ideology to protect its legitimate interests in a volatile world, he said, adding that this legacy is the country’s compass for national protection in complex situations.
President Ho Chi Minh’s vision and his important role in struggles for independence of African countries and their fight against racism has been highlighted in radio programme “The Taylor Report” hosted by Phil Taylor.
President Ho Chi Minh’s chronicles about dire circumstances experienced by coloured people in all parts of the world, especially in the US, were also reviewed in the programme.
According to Taylor, after reading the book entitled "The Black Race by Ho Chi Minh and Selected Works on Systemic Racism” written by Prof. Nguyen Dai Trang, President of the Canada-ASEAN Initiatives, he was extremely surprised to learn that the Vietnamese President had been to Boston, New York, Madagascar, and Paris – experiences that helped Uncle Ho to recognise connections between colonialism and racism.
The information in the book is really valuable and new materials for many Western researchers who want to understand more about the great leader, Taylor said.
The Canada – Vietnam Friendship Society (CVFS) on May 15 also held an online seminar featuring the life and career of late President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 131st birthday.
Participants, including Vietnamese people working, studying and living in Canada as well as Canadians, watched documentaries and listened to songs about the late President./.
